LANCASTER, Pa. -
Margaret White hit on five of seven three pointers, wrapping up her night with 21 points and nine boards, to lead Gettysburg to a 70-55 win at Franklin & Marshall. It was the Centennial Conference (CC) season opener for both teams. Gettysburg improved its season mark to 3-1 (1-0 CC), while the Diplomats fell to 1-2 (0-1 CC).
White was white hot early on, hitting her first pair of treys inside of the game's first two minutes, and rolling up 12 points inside of the first nine minutes. Her effort helped the Bullets build an 11-point lead midway through the half. At that point, the Diplomats began to whittle away at White and company's lead, cutting it as close as 25-24 with 45 seconds left in the first half.
Franklin & Marshall was never able to overcome that one-point deficit. The Bullets led for 38 minutes and a pair of seconds in the game, largely because of solid and timely three-point shooting. Gettysburg connected on 10 of its 18 three pointers in the win.
Franklin & Marshall got 19 points from Miriam Marcis, and 13 points and nine rebounds from Brittany Braxton. Despite Braxton's best efforts, Gettysburg held a 40-30 edge on the glass. The 10 rebounds that composed the difference all came on the offensive end, yielding 11 second chance points for the Bullets.
The Diplomats return to action after the holiday weekend. Franklin & Marshall hosts York College on Monday. That game tips off at 7:00 p.m. in the Mayser Center on the campus of Franklin & Marshall.
