Dickinson Downs Diplomats 69-49 in Women's Basketball

CARLISLE, PA - Dickinson College used a 17-2 run midway through the first half to open up a 16 point lead as the Red Devils defeated Franklin & Marshall College 69-49 in Centennial Conference women's basketball.

Leading 11-10 with 10:48 to play following a jumper by the Diplomats' Emily Weaver (Sr., Prince Frederick, MD/Calverton), Dickinson began to pull away as Patrice Johnson dropped in a lay-up and Ally Teatom tacked on a pair of free throws to put the Red Devils (16-5, 12-3 Centennial Conference) ahead by five with 8:47 left in the half.

Forward Brittany Braxton (So., Pearl River, NY/Nanuet) sliced the lead back to three points with a jumper at the 8:31 mark, but Teatom made a free throw, Laura Houseal knocked down a jumper and a three-pointer and Johnson tacked on a lay-up to push the lead out to 23-12. Teatom added a lay-up and Houseal drilled a three-pointer to give Dickinson a 28-12 lead with 4:29 left in the half.

Trailing 35-14 at halftime, the Diplomats (7-14, 4-10 Centennial Conference) were unable to cut the lead below 13 points in the second half as Dickinson improves to 22-38 all-time against Franklin & Marshall in women's basketball.

Guard Sarah Meisenberg (Fr., Severna Park, MD/Severn School) led the way for the Diplomats as she tallied 12 points with five rebounds, while Weaver chipped in eight points and four rebounds. Braxton tallied six points and seven rebounds and point guard Dana Johns (Sr., York, PA/Eastern York) tallied seven points and a team high nine rebounds to round out the Franklin & Marshall leaders.

Historically, Johns raised her career-scoring total to 1,037 points as she surpassed Aurora Gonzalez '97 (1,034) for 11th in program history. Further, she now has 241 steals, 280 assists and 158 three-pointers as she ranks first in treys, third in steals and third in assists at Franklin & Marshall.

For Dickinson, Houseal tallied 14 points, eight rebounds and three assists, while Johnson finished with a game high 17 points and three steals and Teatom added 10 points, 14 rebounds, four blocks, two steals and an assist.

Franklin & Marshall will continue the season on February 9 at home versus Swarthmore College in Centennial Conference play. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
