WELLINGTON, FL - Kelly Cassels (Jr., Downingtown, PA/Great Valley) scored three goals as the #13 Franklin & Marshall College women's lacrosse team defeated #19 William Smith College 16-4 in non-conference spring break action in Florida.

The win snaps a three-game losing streak to the Herons by Franklin & Marshall as William Smith previously defeated the Diplomats 11-8 (2005) and 10-8 (2004) in Florida in the two programs last meetings.

Franklin & Marshall put the game away against the Herons early as F&M jumped out to a 7-0 lead before allowing a pair of scores in the final two minutes leading up to halftime.

Sloan Giampa (Jr., Cortlandt Manor, NY/Yorktown) opened the scoring for the Diplomats with an unassisted score at the 27:47 mark before Catherine Onnen (So., Lutherville, MD/St. Paul's School for Girls) and Sarah Meisenberg (Fr., Severna Park, MD/Severn) tacked on unassisted scores at 24:37 and 15:55, respectively, to push the lead out to 3-0.

The margin continued to grow as Jen Pritchard (Fr., Media, PA/Penncrest) fed Shannon Summers (Fr., North Wales, PA/The Hill School) for a goal at 13:22 and Prichard scored off an assist from Onnen at 11:26 before Kiki Foster (Sr., Denver, CO/Kent Denver) and Summers tallied unassisted goals at 8:25 and 3:28, respectively, for a 7-0 lead.

William Smith chipped the lead back to five goals prior to halftime as Sarah Dillon and Louise Greenwood found the back of the cage at 1:46 and 1:00, respectively, for a 7-2 F&M lead at the break.

Franklin & Marshall regained the momentum in the opening minutes of the second half as Onnen finished a feed from Meisenberg at 22:12 to start a 6-0 run for a 13-2 lead with 7:23 to play.

Cassels tallied all three of her goals during the spurt as she scored off an assist from Eileen Keever (Sr., Prospect Park, PA/Interboro) at 19:06, ripped an unassisted goal at 14:49 and registered a score courtesy an assist from Allison Solomon (Fr., Damascus, MD/Academy of the Holy Cross) at the 7:23 mark.

Foster and Meisenberg completed the string of scores with goals at 12:03 and 9:30, respectively, while Onnen added an assist on Foster's goal.

Dillon broke F&M's streak with a score at 5:37 to pull the Herons to within 10 goals, but Ellie Lisle (So., Gladwyne, PA/Harriton) netted a score off an assist from Foster with 4:10 to play and chipped in an unassisted goal at 3:27 before Solomon concluded the Diplomats' scoring with an unassisted goal at 2:42 for a 16-3 lead.

Michaela Parnell concluded the scoring with an unassisted goal at 1:15 for the 16-4 final.

In goal, Kamissa Mort (Sr., Ashton, MD/Sandy Spring) made 11 saves in 60 minutes to pick up her second win of the season, while Morgan Baird took the loss for William Smith making eight saves.

Franklin & Marshall (2-0, 0-0 Centennial Conference) will continue the season on March 17 versus Connecticut College in West Palm Beach, Florida. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
