Box Score SALISBURY, MD - Amanda Tack scored three goals and handed out an assist as #2 Salisbury University scored 10 goals in the first half and overcame a comeback attempt by #10 Franklin & Marshall College to take a 14-8 victory in non-conference women's lacrosse action.
Salisbury (8-0, 3-0 Capital Athletic Conference), which should move up to #1 in the polls this year as #1 The College of New Jersey fell to #6 Cortland State earlier today, jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the opening minutes of the game as Kate Scott and Tack tallied unassisted goals at 28:59 and 22:56, respectively, before Sue Ackerman netted a free position goal at 24:29 and assisted Ani Khatchatoorian on a goal at 23:03.
Franklin & Marshall (5-1, 1-0 Centennial Conference) halved the lead as Kelly Cassels (Jr., Downingtown, PA/Great Valley) converted on a free position shot at 12:50 and Catherine Onnen (So., Lutherville, MD/St. Paul's School for Girls) finished a pass from Sloan Giampa (Jr., Cortlandt Manor, NY/Yorktown) at 11:17 to trim the margin to 4-2.
However, the Sea Gulls finished out the half with a 6-0 run to carry a 10-2 lead into halftime.
Franklin & Marshall cut the lead to 10-5 to open the second half as Kiki Foster (Sr., Denver, CO/Kent Denver) converted on a pass from Eileen Keever (Sr., Prospect Park, PA/Interboro) at 29:36, Shannon Summers (Fr., North Wales, PA/Hill School) finished an assist from Giampa at 20:56 and Sarah Meisenberg (Fr., Severna Park, MD/Severn) beat Salisbury goalie Ali Goetz for an unassisted goal at 16:37.
Salisbury responded to push the lead back to eight goals as Tack, Katie Simmons and Erin McCarthy scored at 14:58, 14:06 and 13:14, respectively, to go ahead 13-5.
The Diplomats and Sea Gulls traded goals as Keever scored an unassisted goal at 12:25 and Jessica Wirth finished a pass from Kate Scott at 6:59 to keep Salisbury in front 14-6.
F&M closed out the game with a pair of scores in the waning moments of the game as Onnen connected with Sarah Pritchard (Fr., Media, PA/Penncrest) for a goal at 2:32 and Foster connected on a feed from Giampa with 1:01 to play for the 14-8 final score.
Foster led the Diplomats with two goals, while Giampa added three assists and Keever chipped in a goal and an assist.
In goal, Kamissa Mort (Sr., Ashton, MD/Sandy Spring) made 14 saves on 37 shots in taking the loss, while Goetz stopped nine of the Diplomats' 27 shots.
The loss snaps the Diplomats 15 game regular season victory streak as the blue and white had not lost a game in the regular season since an 11-8 defeat by William Smith College on March 15, 2005.
Franklin & Marshall (5-1, 1-0 Centennial Conference) will continue the season on March 28 at Swarthmore College in Centennial Conference action. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m.
