#5 Diplomats Terrorize McDaniel 19-9 in Women's Lacrosse

WESTMINSTER, MD - Midfielder Kelly Cassels (Jr., Downingtown, PA/Great Valley) scored three goals and three assists to record the 99th, 100th and 101st goals of her career in leading the #5 Franklin & Marshall College women's lacrosse team to a 19-9 victory over McDaniel College in Centennial Conference women's lacrosse action at Bair Stadium.

Leading 5-2 at halftime, F&M put the game away in the second half outscoring the Green Terror 14-7 to record their most goals in a game this season. Further, the final score marked the most goals scored by the Diplomats since a 19-10 win over Rowan University on April 26 and a 19-3 victory against Bryn Mawr College on April 16 last year.

Statistically, the Diplomats (9-2, 5-1 Centennial Conference) dominated the game out shooting McDaniel (5-7, 3-3 Centennial Conference) 51-29, including a 24-10 advantage in the first half, and led in ground balls (28-to-24), clears (17-of-20-to-11-of-17) and free position shots (4-12 to 4-7).

The Diplomats opened the game with back-to-back goals to jump out to a 2-0 lead as attacker Sarah Meisenberg (Fr., Severna Park, MD/Severn) tallied an unassisted goal at 28:40 and Cassels scored on a free position shot at 26:21.

McDaniel cut into the margin as Kerrie Wuenschel finished an assist from Kim Lowry at 26:09, but Meisenberg put the Diplomats back in front by a pair of goals at 25:47 with an unassisted goal before attacker Jen Pritchard (Fr., Media, PA/Penncrest) scored off a pass from attacker Catherine Onnen (So., Lutherville, MD/St. Paul's School for Girls) at 9:51 for a 4-1 lead.

The team's traded goals to close out the first half as Lowry scored on a free position shot for the Green Terror at 4:55 and Cassels threaded a pass to attacker Kiki Foster (Sr., Denver, CO/Kent Denver) with 3:28 left on the first half clock for a goal and a 5-2 lead at halftime.

Franklin & Marshall put the game away in the first six minutes of the second half with six goals. Meisenberg started the run 57 seconds into the 30-minute half as she scored on a free position shot at 29:03. Pritchard added an unassisted goal at 28:22 and Cassels found Onnen for a goal at 27:31 to push the margin to 8-2. Midfielder Shannon Summers (Fr., North Wales, PA/The Hill School) chipped in a pair of unassisted goals at 26:33 and 24:11, while Meisenberg added an unassisted goal at 24:25 for an 11-2 lead with 24 minutes to play in the game.

Lowry snapped the scoring streak with a goal at 22:41 off an assist from Megan Mattson, but Cassels scored the 100th goal of her career on a free position shot at 21:32 for a 12-3 lead.

The goal moved Cassels into sole possession of 21st place on the career goals list at F&M as she surpassed her head coach, Anne Phillips '80, on the list.

Lindsey McDonald answered Cassels goal with a free position goal at 20:43, but Prichard scored on an assist from Cassels at 19:22 to keep the margin at nine goals.

The teams continued to trade goals as Lowry scored on an assist from Caitlin Schellhorn at 19:12, Summers tallied an unassisted goal at 17:37, Schellhorn scored on a free position shot at 16:15 and Cassels added her third goal of the game at 14:33 for a 15-6 lead.

Franklin & Marshall moved ahead by 10 goals 43 seconds later as Pritchard scored on a free position shot for a 16-6 lead, but McDonald and Wuenschel scored at 11:06 and 10:47, respectively, to pull the Green Terror to within eight goals of tying the game.

The Diplomats closed out the game with a 3-1 run as midfielders Vanessa Brown (Fr., Phoenixville, PA/Owen J. Roberts) and Ellie Lisle (So., Gladwyne, PA/Harriton) scored on assists from Foster at 6:36 and 2:19, respectively, and Pritchard tacked on a goal at 1:37, while McDaniel's Tara Smith scored on a free position shot at 2:49 for the 19-9 final score.

Pritchard finished the game with five goals, while Meisenberg added four and Summers three scores in the victory. Foster chipped in a goal and two assists and Onnen added a goal and an assist to key the Diplomats.

For McDaniel, Lowry tallied three goals and an assist, while McDonald added two goals and Wuenschel registered two goals and an assist.

In goal, Kamissa Mort (Sr., Ashton, MD/Sandy Spring) earned the win making 11 saves and allowing nine goals on 29 McDaniel shots, while the Green Terror's Megan Millhausen took the loss allowing 10 goals with eight saves in 35:35. Sarah White finished the game between the pipes for McDaniel allowing nine goals with six saves in 24:25.

Franklin & Marshall (9-2, 5-1 Centennial Conference) will continue the season on April 15 at home versus Washington College in Centennial Conference action. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
