Box Score LANCASTER, PA - Midfielder Shannon Summers (Fr., North Wales, PA/The Hill School) scored a game high four goals and handed out an assist to lead the #5 Franklin & Marshall College women's lacrosse team to a 17-8 victory over Washington College in Centennial Conference women's lacrosse action at Sponaugle-Williamson Field.
The Diplomats put the game away in the first 20 minutes of play as Franklin & Marshall built an 8-0 lead and was never challenged again.
Midfielder Eileen Keever (Sr., Prospect Park, PA/Interboro) opened the scoring for the Diplomats as she finished a feed from midfielder Kelly Cassels (Jr., Downingtown, PA/Great Valley) at the 28:36 mark. Midfielder Sarah Meisenberg (Fr., Severna Park, MD/Severn) followed with a free position goal at 26:12 before attacker Jen Pritchard (Fr., Media, PA/Penncrest) scored off an assist from Keever at 24:40 and tallied a free position goal at 23:07 for a 4-0 lead.
The run continued as Summers threaded a pass to Meisenberg for a goal at 21:29, Pritchard scored unassisted at 14:33 and fed Cassels for a goal at 11:58 and Summers finished a pass from Meisenberg at 9:44 for an 8-0 lead.
Washington cut into the lead as Lauren Sampson scored at 4:36 and Sally Mancini registered a free position goal at 4:36, but the Diplomats answered prior to halftime as midfielder Sloan Giampa (Jr., Cortlandt Manor, NY/Yorktown) netted back-to-back unassisted goals at 2:33 and 1:13 for a 10-2 lead at the break.
The Diplomats pushed the lead out to nine goals to open the second half as attacker Kiki Foster (Sr., Denver, CO/Kent Denver) netted an unassisted goal at 26:52.
Franklin & Marshall exchanged goals for the next seven minutes as Washington's Melanie Ruppert scored at 24:45, Foster finished a pass from Cassels at 24:38, Jenna Gouck scored an unassisted goal at 23:01 for the Shorewomen and Cassels finished a pass from Foster at 20:46 for a 13-4 lead.
Washington's Lauren Sampson scored at 20:35 to pull the Shorewomen to within eight goals, but F&M tallied back-to-back goals as Summers scored on an assist from defender Emily Gill (Jr., Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) at 19:53 and Foster curved a shot around the left post at 13:32 for a 15-5 margin.
Washington countered with goals at 9:58 and 3:48 from Mancini and Bollinger, respectively, to pull to within eight goals, but Summers tallied unassisted scores at 3:15 and 1:25 to set the lead at 17-7.
The Shorewomen closed out the scoring as Bollinger scored a free position goal prior to the final horn.
Pritchard finished the game with three goals, while Cassels added two goals and two assists, Meisenberg chipped in two goals and an assist and Foster tacked on three goals and an assist to lead the Diplomats as the team improved to 19-5 all-time against Washington in women's lacrosse.
In goal, Kamissa Mort (Sr., Ashton, MD/Sandy Spring) earned the win making three saves and allowing eight goals on 13 Washington shots, while the Shorewomen's Mollie Binotto took the loss allowing 17 goals with 13 saves.
Franklin & Marshall (10-2, 6-1 Centennial Conference) will continue the season on April 18 at home versus #16 Dickinson College in Centennial Conference action. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m.
