Box Score 2 ALLENTOWN, PA - Franklin & Marshall College shortstop Lauren Incorvaia (Fr., Manalapan, NJ/St. John Vianney) batted .667 (four-for-six) with a run and a run batted in, but Muhlenberg College designated player Jennifer Rosenthal went five-for-five with a pair of homeruns, a double, six RBI and two runs scored to lead the Mules to a 10-2 and 12-1 sweep of the Diplomats in Centennial Conference softball at Cedarcreek Field.
In game one, starting pitchers Bonnie Crouthamel (So., Chatham, NJ/Chatham) and Nicole Washburn kept their opponents off the scoreboard until the fourth inning.
Franklin & Marshall jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the game as Crouthamel and Incorvaia singled to lead off the inning before Robyn Jones (Jr., Titusville, NJ/Pennington) laced a double to drive in Crouthamel for a 1-0 lead. Kathleen Clinchy (So., Katonah, NY/Somers) reached on an error to load the bases before Meredith Morgan (Fr., Phoenixville, PA/Owen J. Roberts) singled to plate Incorvaia. Washburn worked out of the bases loaded jam with no outs via a 4-2-3 double play and a ground out.
The Mules broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth with seven runs on five hits, including three doubles, to go in front 7-2.
Muhlenberg tacked on a pair of runs in the fifth on a two run homer by Rosenthal and a single run in the sixth for the 10-2 final as the game was called due to the eight run rule.
Crouthamel took the loss for the Diplomats allowing seven runs on five hits and three walks with four strikeouts in 3.2 innings. Laura Kaesshaefer (So., Philadelphia, PA/William Penn Charter) finished the game pitching 1.1 innings with three runs allowed on two hits and two walks.
Washburn earned the win for Muhlenberg pitching six innings with two runs allowed on six hits with four strikeouts.
At the plate, Rosenthal finished two-for-three with four RBI and a run scored, while Incorvaia was one-for-three with a run scored, Crouthamel finished two-for-two with a run scored and Jones went two-for-three with an RBI.
In game two, Muhlenberg plated one run in the first inning and scored 10 in the second inning on its way to a 12-1 five inning win.
The Diplomats plated a run in the top of the fifth as Incorvaia drove in Dana Johns (Sr., York, PA/Eastern York) for the 12-1 final.
Ali Tyler (So., Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) took the loss for the Diplomats allowing six runs on six hits and a walk in 1.1 innings, while Crouthamel allowed four runs on three hits and a walk and Kaesshaefer permitted two runs on three hits and two walks with a strikeout.
Katie Vecchione earned the win for the Mules allowing one run on five hits and a walk with two strikeouts in five innings.
At the plate, Incorvaia finished three-for-three with an RBI, while Rosenthal was two-for-two with two RBI and a run scored.
Franklin & Marshall (4-21, 1-5 Centennial Conference) will continue the season on April 11 at Haverford College in a Centennial Conference doubleheader. Game one is set for 3:00 p.m.
