LANCASTER, PA - Trailing 21-0 going into the final period, Franklin & Marshall's comeback bid fell just short as they dropped a 21-13 decision to Kean University Saturday night at F&M.
Kean opened up its lead with a touchdown in each of the first three periods. In the first, quarterback A.J. Roque found Jarred Crowley for a 49-yard scoring strike; Jared Chunn ran one in from 28 yards in the second and the third period saw Chris Aquino race in from five yards.
But F&M, behind solid passing from Kyle Turner, came roaring back. Turner - 22-of-46 for 240 yards - hit Michael Holden for a nine yard score. With 9:15 left, he went to Bobby Frieler for a 28 yard TD strike.
The Diplomats would move it inside the 15 yard line with less than four minutes to go, but turned the ball over on downs.
Paul Sousa caught seven passes for 100 yards to lead the Dips; Chris Varner gained 50 yards on 12 carries to lead on the ground.
For the Cougars, Anthony Stewart led with 62 yards rushing. O'Roque was 12-of-23 for 173 yards and a touchdown.
F&M travels to Carnegie Mellon next Saturday for a 1 p.m. matchup.
