Ursinus Defeats Diplomats

LANCASTER, Pa. - Sarah Hennessey recorded a game-high 18 points and eight rebounds, while Carolyn Konstanzer added a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards to lead Ursinus over Franklin & Marshall 58-47 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action on Saturday.

Julie Bown was the third player for the Bears (3-4, 3-1 CC) to post double-digits with 13 points, combining with Hennessey and Konstanzer for 41 of the 58 points scored for their third conference win.

Sarah Meisenberg scored nine consecutive points in less than a minute to help the Diplomats (5-2, 2-2 CC) attempt a late second-half comeback, finishing with 15 points. Amanda Miceli registered a team-high 16 points.

Franklin & Marshall took its biggest lead of the game early on, going up 16-11 with 11:28 left on a layup by junior guard Jessica Feldman. Ursinus came back to tie the score at 18-all with 4:43 left on a layup by Bown,

The Bears then scored the next nine out of 10 points to take a 27-19 lead, holding F&M to just one field goal over the final 11:28 of the first half.

Ursinus used the momentum from the first half into the second, pulling away by as much as 15 points with 5:42 left and getting five points from Konstanzer and four from Hennessey.

The Diplomats got to within nine at the 2:15 mark, getting nine straight points from Meisenberg to make it 53-44, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Bears.

Alex Shivers pulled down 10 rebounds to help the Bears edge the Diplomats on the glass, 53-51

Meisenberg finished with five steals, while freshman center Alison Menna had a team-high nine rebounds.

F&M returns to action on Monday, Dec. 17 against Lebanon Valley. Game time is 4 p.m.
