Shannon Summers (N. Wales, PA / Hill School) scored four goals, including the game-winner, and assisted on two more as #5 Franklin & Marshall rolled to a 16-4 win over Swarthmore on Thursday.
The Diplomats exploded out to a 5-0 lead in the game's first 12 minutes, and took an 11-0 advantage into the half. Sarah Meisenberg (Severna Park, MD / Severn School) got F&M on the board with a free position goal 48 seconds in. 16 seconds later, Devi Hensch (Bordentown, NJ / N. Burlington Reg.) fed Kelly Cassels (Downingtown, PA / Great Valley) to make it 2-0, and the Diplomats were off and running.
Franklin & Marshall out-shot Swat 36-12 with a 19-3 advantage in the first half. The Diplomats keeper, Lidia Sanza (Cockeysville, MD / SPSG) turned all three advances aside before retiring to the bench for the second half. Chelsea Meerbach (York, PA / York) recorded four second-half saves and allowed all four Swarthmore goals in the final 30 minutes of work.
Six different players recorded two or more goals for F&M. In addition to Summers' four, Jen Pritchard (Media, PA / Penncrest) tallied a hat trick, Cassels, Meisenberg, Hensch, and Ashley Bevington (Schwenksville, PA / Hill School) each had two. Cassels and Blake Hargest (Cockeysville, MD / SPSG) each assisted on a pair, while Brenna Dolphin (Wilmington, DE / Archmere) had both a goal and an assist.
With the win, Franklin & Marshall remains unbeaten at 8-0, with a 2-0 mark in Centennial Conference play. Swarthmore fell to 5-4 (0-2 CC). The Diplomats return to action on Saturday in a battle of unbeaten teams. The #5 Diplomats will play host to #3 Salisbury at 2:00 p.m. on Sponaugle-Williamson field.
