Franklin & Marshall was swept by Swarthmore in Centennial Conference softball on Saturday. The Diplomats dropped the opener 5-4 in extra innings, and fell 9-1 in a mercy rule shortened, five-inning nightcap. The losses drop Franklin & Marshall's record to 7-23 (1-11 CC) on the year, while Swarthmore improved to 19-8 (8-2 CC).
In the second game, F&M's first batter, Jessica Feldman (Jackson, NJ / Jackson) doubled and later scored on a Lauren Incorvaia (Manaplan, NJ / St. John Vianney) ground out. Feldman accounted for F&M's only hit and only run in the 9-1 loss.
Jessika Mancino (Lancaster, PA / Hempfield) went 2-for-4 in the opener scoring twice. Caitlin Elfring (Glen Rock, NJ /Glen Rock) went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Incorvaia and Meredith Morgan (Phoenixville, PA / Owen J. Roberts) each drove in a run.
Bonnie Crouthamel (Chatham, NJ / Chatham) took the loss, falling to 4-10 on the year. She allowed five runs, four earned on 10 hits and struck out eight.
The Diplomats return to action against Washington College on Sunday afternoon in Lancaster.
