The date that has been circled on both teams' calendars has finally arrived as two top-five teams square off in Lancaster, Pennsylvania today. 55 miles of the Lincoln Highway are all that divide the squads geographically, while just two teams stand between #4 Gettysburg and #1 Franklin & Marshall in terms of rankings. Those rankings get thrown out the door at 1:00 p.m. today.
The Match-Up: #4 Gettysburg (13-1, 8-0 CC) at #1 Franklin & Marshall (14-0, 8-0 CC).
At Stake: Homefield advantage for next weekend's Centennial Conference Championship Tournament.
On the Line: Franklin & Marshall has won 14 consecutive games. A win today would tie with the 1991 squad for the program's longest winning streak.
History says: That since the Bullets hold a 21-18-1 (41 games) edge since 1975, but has been dominant in recent history. Gettysburg has taken 12 of the last 13 meetings, including each of the last three. The Bullets won the last game between these schools played in Lancaster during the 2005 Centennial Conference Championship Final, 11-9. F&M won the regular season meeting that season 8-7, also in Lancaster. Each of the last four meetings have been decided by two goals or less. Gettysburg got away with a pair of one-goal wins in two meetings at the Battlefield last year, including a the showdown in the Championship Final.
