READING, Pa. - - #20 Alvernia led Franklin & Marshall for better part of 63 minutes, but F&M freshman Eileen O'Reilly scored with 48 seconds remaining in the game to force overtime. The Diplomats' (1-0) Pamela Cassidy capitalized on F&M's extended life 7:30 into overtime to start the season with a 2-1 upset victory.

The Diplomats were out-shot 19-12, but F&M's advances were more efficient as each team put eight on the cage. Jennifer Burdo turned aside seven shots for F&M, while her counterpart, Audrey Hoffman stopped six. Alvernia got on the board first scoring 6:17 into the game.

The win is the second overtime victory for F&M, dating back to last season's finale, a 4-3 win over Swarthmore.

With the win, Franklin & Marshall starts the season at 1-0. The Diplomats return to action on Wednesday at Elizabethtown at 4:30 p.m.
