Outside hitter Margot Phelan combined for 27 digs, 18 kills, 11 service aces, and three assisted blocks, while setter Pam Horner posted 33 assists, 13 kills, 13 digs, and five service aces to lead the Franklin & Marshall volleyball team to a 2-0 record on the first day of the Elizabethtown College Invitational on Friday.
The Diplomats (10-3, 3-0 CC) swept Widener 3-0 (30-18, 30-17, 34-32) in the first match and overcame Neumann 3-1 (25-30, 30-27, 30-21, 30-25) in the final match of the evening.
Outside hitter Maritza Fair lead the team with 19 kills and notched two services aces and five blocks (two solo, three assisted) in the matches. Middle hitter Nicole Morano added 11 kills and an impressive 10 blocks (four solo, six assisted). Setter Valerie Pusateri tallied 32 assists, and libero Jenna Walck added 27 digs on the day.
The Diplomats resume play tomorrow at the Elizabethtown Invitational. Their first game is set for 10:00 a.m.
