Franklin & Marshall's volleyball team defeated St. Mary's College (Md.) 3-2 (30-27, 17-30, 30-28, 21-30, 15-9) in the championship final to bring home the title from the Blue Jay Classic. The Diplomats (12-3) won the Elizabethtown tournament for the first time since 1993, and the third time overall. Margot Phelan was named tournament MVP, while Valerie Pusateri landed on the All-Tournament team.
Phelan recorded 18 kills, 15 digs and a solo block in the 3-2 win over St. Mary's. She finished the tournament with 46 kills. Pusateri was her primary feeder with 29 assists in the championship final. She had 56 assists on the weekend.
Earlier in the day, the Diplomats defeated Lycoming 3-0 (30-21, 30-28, 30-27) to advance to the championship match. Phelan and Maritza Fair each posted 10 kills, with Phelan adding nine digs. Pusateri and Pamela Horner recorded 24 and 17 assists, respectively. Each served up three aces for the Diplomats cause.
Fair finished her weekend with 19 kills in the final. Jenna Walck recorded 24 digs and a pair of service aces in the match. The win over St. Mary's ran F&M's winning streak to nine consecutive matches. The Diplomats have dropped just six games in that stretch.
Franklin & Marshall returns to action on Wednesday at Gettysburg.
