Bullets Upset No. 19 Diplomats, 5-1

Nina Emala recorded two goals and Katherine Corkhill made 11 saves to help Gettysburg upset No. 19 Franklin & Marshall 5-1 in Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey action on Wednesday.

The Diplomats (6-2, 2-1 CC) scored first, but the Bullets (5-3, 2-1 CC) netted five unanswered goals to pick up their second conference victory and hand the F&M their first CC loss.

Eileen O'Reilly netted the lone goal for F&M with just 4:48 gone in the first half, while Jennifer Burdo made three saves in the cage.

Gettysburg responded in the 11th minute with a goal off a penalty corner. Lexie Hearn blasted a close shot at the 10:30 mark to knot the game at 1-all.

Emala gave the Bullets a 2-1 cushion heading into halftime when she finished a redirected shot off assists from Molly Latta and Anne Ritter. Latta found Cristi Farrell for the third goal, before Ritter scored an unassisted tally in the 54th minute to make it 4-1.

With under 10 minutes to play, Emala scored her second goal with a back-hand shot off a feed from Savannah Ruth for the final 5-1 margin.

The Diplomats held a 15-13 shot advantage and a 12-9 edge in penalty corners.

F&M returns to action on Saturday at Bryn Mawr. Game time is 1 p.m.
