Field hockey takes out another ranked opponent

Franklin & Marshall netted the first two goals and held on to post its second consecutive win over a nationally-ranked opponent with a 2-1 victory against No. 15 Elizabethtown on Wednesday afternoon.

Pamela Cassidy and Brittany Carson each scored for the Diplomats (2-0), while CC Defensive Player of the Week Jennifer Burdo made four saves.

In the 31st minute, Eileen O'Reilly found Cassidy for a 1-0 edge before Carson finished a pass on an open net from Lindsay Solar at the 48:37 mark for a 2-0 cushion.

The Blue Jays (2-1) outshot F&M 11-9, capitalizing on Katy Boone's shot late in the second half to cut the lead to 2-1 with 5:24 left to play. Elizabethtown also held an advantage in penalty corners, firing off nine in the final stanza and 15 overall but unable to convert any.

The Diplomats return to action on Saturday against Albright. Game time is 3 p.m.
