LANCASTER, Pa. - With 8:01 remaining in the contest, Danielle
David scored the game-winning goal on a penalty kick to lift
Franklin & Marshall over Gettysburg 1-0 in Centennial
Conference (CC) women's soccer action on Wednesday.
David netted her team-leading fifth goal and second penalty kick
of the season to help the Diplomats (6-2, 2-1 CC) record their
second straight conference win while handing the Bullets (3-2-3,
2-1 CC) their first CC loss.
Neither team could muster up great scoring opportunities,
getting four shots apiece until F&M was awarded the penalty
kick off a hand-ball foul in the box. David, who scored the
game-winning goal off a PK against Alvernia, put her left-footed
shot into the left side of the goal past Danielle St. Pierre for
the win.
The Diplomats were able to keep the ball out of their net in the
final minutes with Erin Roy (Boxborough, MA/Boxborough) making two
saves on the night for the shutout.
Gettysburg did not back down and had a chance to send the game
into overtime with a direct kick from 25 yards out with 36 seconds
left to play, but the F&M defense was able to clear the ball
and down into Bullets territory to hold on for a one-goal victory.
F&M returns to action on Saturday against Bryn Mawr. Game
time is 3:30 p.m.
