LANCASTER, Pa. -- Whitney Sheaffer recorded her first career hat
trick and assisted on another goal to lead Franklin & Marshall
to an 8-0 win over Bryn Mawr in Centennial Conference (CC) field
hockey Saturday afternoon. The win was the first in league play for
F&M this season, improving the Diplomats' record to 4-6 (1-3
CC). Bryn Mawr fell to 1-9 (0-5 CC).
Sheaffer registered the natural hat trick in the second half,
and assisted on F&M's final goal of the game, scored by Becky
Willert. That goal was Willert's second in the game. She netted the
game-winner just past the 23rd minute mark firing a shot
from the top-right portion of the arc. Her direct bounced off the
leg of an Owl defender into the front-left corner. Neither Willert
nor Sheaffer had scored this season prior to today's contest. Kimmy
Fisher also netted her first goal and assist of the season for the
Diplomats.
F&M outshot Bryn Mawr 39-3 in the game. Bryn Mawr's keeper,
Elizabeth Toft, turned away 16 advances. The Owls did not manage to
put a shot on the cage until the closing minutes of the contest.
F&M returns to action next Friday night at Ursinus. That
game gets underway 7:00 p.m.
