LANCASTER, Pa. - Sarah Meisenberg scored a game-high 19 points
and Cara Landolfi recorded a double double with 10 points and a
career-high 12 rebounds to lead Franklin & Marshall past
Haverford 51-40 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball on
Tuesday night.
The Diplomats (2-1, 1-0 CC) held the Fords (0-2, 0-1 CC) without
a field-goal until the 8:44 mark and to just 11.1 percent shooting
in the first half to take a 28-13 lead and hold on for their first
conference victory of the season.
Meisenberg went a perfect 6-for-6 from the line while handing
out four assists on the night. Danielle Harrison paced Haverford
with 18 points and Kathleen Abels chipped in 10 points. F&M did
not let the Fords' leading scorer Brittany Lattisaw get a point on
the board, however she grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
It was an easy 8-0 run in the opening minutes of the first half
for the Diplomats. Meisenberg started the spurt with a jumper and
ended it with a layup at the 16:35 mark. F&M pulled out to a
double digit lead after two layups by Miriam Marcis for a
commanding 14-1 lead.
Allie Lieberman made the first field goal for Haverford with a
good jumper off a pass from Lattisaw before cutting the lead to
16-7, but triples by Allison Bauer and Meisenberg combined with a
three-point play from Amy Chabitnoy F&M grabbed a 15-point lead
with 49 seconds left in the half.
The Fords chipped away at a 20-point lead taken by the Diplomats
at the 16:41 mark of the second half, getting within 10. F&M
went 10-for-14 from the line in the final 13 minutes to post its
fifth straight win over Haverford.
Casey Downie recorded a season-high 11 rebounds, while Bauer
added seven points and two steals.
The Diplomats return to action after Thanksgiving to face Johns
Hopkins on Dec. 2. Game time is 7 p.m.
