RADNOR, Pa. - Brittany McLeod led three players in double
figures with 16 point and 16 rebounds, while adding six blocks to
lead Cabrini to its fifth straight win with a 70-61 victory over
Franklin & Marshall in women's basketball action on Friday
night.
Deana DiAmico scored a game-high 17 points, going 10-for-11 from
the free-throw line and dishing out five assists for the Cavaliers
(5-1). Alyssa Brady was the third player registering double digits
with 13 points.
Sarah Meisenberg led the Diplomats (3-4) in scoring for the
sixth straight game with 16 points. Amanda Miceli registered a
season-high 13 points with a perfect showing from the charity strip
(6-for-6). Alison Menna grabbed a team-best 10 boards.
Cabrini never trailed in the contest, pulling away early and
taking as much as 19-point late in the second half for the win.
The game started with a McLeod layup, followed by a Kayleen
Smith bucket before DiAmico converted a three-point play to end
with another McLeod layup for a 9-2 lead at 17:23. Meisenberg
sandwiched a jumper between two baskets by Casie Downie to
make it 11-8.
DiAmico's fast-break layup stopped F&M's chance of taking
its first lead and she also drained a free-throw at 7:21 to push
the score to double digits, 24-14. The Diplomats made their way
back with an 8-0 run on points layups from four different players
to make it 26-22. Menna made it a three-point game with a layup,
but Cabrini managed to score two baskets in the final 27 seconds
for a 34-27 halftime lead.
The Cavaliers used a 9-1 spurt to open the second-half scoring
to extend the lead to 43-28 just 2:36 off the clock. A layup by
Miceli cut the lead to eight with 12:31 left to play and Cabrini
responded the way it opened the game (9-2 run) to maintain the
steady lead.
F&M will take three weeks off and return to action on Jan. 3
against North Park at the York Tournament. Game time is 2 p.m.
