WESTMINSTER, Md. - Ashley Lyles recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Robbin Gregg also tallied 14 points to lead McDaniel over Franklin & Marshall 68-59 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action on Tuesday night.
Ali Moreland scored eight of her 12 points over a three-minute span late in the second half, giving the Green Terror (10-10, 9-5 CC) a double-digit lead down the stretch and hold off the Diplomats (13-6, 8-4 CC) in a crucial conference contest.
Sarah Meisenberg led all scorers with a game-high 21 points to go along with six rebounds and five steals. Brittany Braxton was also in double digits with 16 points and seven boards.
McDaniel held a 40-27 rebounding advantage and went 14-for-19 from the free-throw line to post its 10th straight win over F&M.
Miriam Marcis hit a jumper with 8:58 left to knot the game at 49-all and the completed the three-point play with a free throw to give the Diplomats their first lead.
From there, the Green Terror went on a 19-9 run to finish the game. Lauren Wyble made a jumper and Lyles followed with the non-traditional three points to take a 54-50 edge.
Beth Holt drained a good trey, but Robbin Gregg answered with a jumper and Moreland scored the next eight points over the next two minutes, 38 seconds to give McDaniel a 65-55 lead with 1:37 remaining.
In the first half, the Green Terror jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first minute and a half. Whitney Snoops dropped in the layup for a 16-9 lead, but Meisenberg and Braxton each collected four points while Amy Chabitony made a jumper to get F&M within one at 20-19.
McDaniel regained a six-point lead with a 7-2 spurt, holding on to take a 35-32 edge into the locker rooms.
Holt finished with a team-high eight rebounds and four assists.
The Diplomats return to action on Thursday at Johns Hopkins. Game time is 7 p.m.
