LANCASTER, Pa. - Gettysburg swept Franklin
& Marshall 7-0 and 10-2 in a Centennial Conference softball
double-header on Tuesday. Kristy Rubino limited the Diplomats
(7-17, 4-8 CC) to three hits in her shutout in the opener while
F&M allowed six unearned runs. The Bullets (13-12, 5-7 CC)
limited F&M to five hits in game two while posting six early
runs to spark the mercy-shortened win.
Rubino struck out three F&M batters and issued a pair of
walks in her shutout to improve to 7-6. The game-winning run,
scored in the second inning, was Gettysburg's only earned run in
the contest. Jess Wallick's leadoff double eventually made it 1-0
after a Bonnie
Crouthamel wild pitch. Crouthamel fell to 4-11 with the loss in
spite of throwing a solid game. She limited the Bullets to six hits
and struck out three, but wilted in the circle under the heat of
six F&M errors.
Erin Ober did the bulk of the damage in game one, going 2-for-3
with two RBIs and a run scored. Ali Iacobucci also knocked in two
runs for Gettysburg.
Gettysburg posted 15 hits in the second game, while F&M
again committed six errors, leading to the 10-2 final after five
innings. All nine of the Bullets' starters picked up at least a hit
with six getting a pair. Jessica Wallick drove three runs in and
Sarah Woodbury plated two. Three different players touched the
plate twice for Gettysburg.
Beth McCullough improved to 6-5 with the victory. She fanned
five fummers and allowed as many hits. Kristina
Fietkiewicz hit a home run in the fourth for F&M.
The Diplomats return to action on Saturday at Swarthmore.
