HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Franklin & Marshall women's lacrosse team put themselves one game away from posting their second consecutive undefeated season in the Centennial Conference (CC) with a 17-5 win over Haverford on Tuesday.
The win marks sixth straight victory for the Diplomats (13-1, 8-0 CC), who can clinch hosting rights to the upcoming CC tournament with a win in their regular-season finale against fourth-ranked Gettysburg on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Blake Hargest was one of 10 players to score for F&M, recording a game-high five points with three goals and two assists all in the first half.
Ashley Bevington registered two goals and two assists, while Jen Pritchard, Sarah Meisenberg and Meredith Lussier scored two goals apiece in the opening half to help the Diplomats take a commanding 13-0 lead.
Devi Hensch only need 59 seconds to give F&M a 1-0 edge with her first goal of the season. Hargest scored back-to-back goals in two minutes, 20 seconds for a 3-0 lead.
Bevington had a hand in the next three goals, scoring at the 24-minute mark and then assisting Lussier and Hargest to make it 6-0. Meisenberg aided in getting the lead to 9-0, sandwiching two goals around Lussier's second of the afternoon.
Allison Solomon finished a solo run at 15:19, before Pritchard netted consecutive goals and Bevington earned her fourth point with goal No. 2 with one second left in the first half.
F&M's largest lead came in the first minute of the final half thanks to a goal from Sarah Nyman, her first of the season. Casey Sanborn put the Fords (5-10, 1-7 CC) on the board with 26:08 left to play, the first of five by Haverford in the second stanza. Lauren Finkel scored twice and dished out an assist in the loss.
Chelsea Meerbach made her first start in the cage for F&M, collecting three saves and her first win of the season.
The Diplomats scored their first 13 goals on 18 shots fired on the net and held a 15-9 advantage in draw controls.
