SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall
senior, Bonnie
Crouthamel, scattered five hits over seven innings to take a
1-0 pitchers duel from Swarthmore's Kathryn Riley in the opening
game of Saturday's Centennial Conference (CC) softball double
header. The Garnet (20-12, 9-5 CC) returned the favor in the
nightcap, shutting out the Fummers (8-18, 5-9 CC) 4-0.
Crouthamel improved to 5-13 on the season with the 1-0 win. She
issued four walks and struck out a single batter. Her Counterpart,
Riley, struck out seven and limited F&M to only two hits, but
fell to 15-6 on the year.
F&M scored the lone run on both of their hits in the third
inning when Jessika Mancino
pounded out a one-out, infield single then stole second base. A
Riley wild pitch moved the Diplomats' centerfielder to third. Robyn Jones
brought her home with a two-out single into the left-center gap.
The Garnet did the bulk of the game two damage in the second
inning, scoring three runs on three hits and an error off of
F&M starter, Meredith Morgan
(2-3). Christine Sendelsky's double plated a pair of runners. She
went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored. She came home in
the third on a Krista Scheirer single that found a way through the
Diplomats' left side.
Alexandra Zelaski (5-5) limited F&M to a pair of hits in
game two to earn the win. She struck out a pair of batters. The
Garnet added an unearned insurance run in the sixth to make the
score the 4-0 final.
The Diplomats return to action on Tuesday for a pair at
Albright.
