LANCASTER, Pa. - Sarah Meisenberg recorded three goals and four assists for a game-high seven points, while Meredith Lussier made the difference in the final 12 minutes with a pair of goals to help third-ranked Franklin & Marshall edge No. 14 Dickinson 12-10 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse action on Tuesday.
Lussier's first goal was on a free-position shot at the 12:06 mark to put the Diplomats (10-1, 6-0 CC) ahead for good and Ashley Bevington followed that with a good 8-meter shot for the eventual game winner. Bevington finished with a hat trick on the day.
Four different players tallied two goals for the Red Devils (8-4, 4-2 CC), including Amy Jennings who added two assists for four points. Jessie Clark tallied eight saves in the loss.
Shannon Summers and Meisenberg each put away a free-position shot for the early 2-0 lead, but the Red Devils were relentless and scored three consecutive goals to take a 3-2 edge.
Blake Hargest buried a pass from Meisenberg at the 14:03 mark, but Abby Larson tallied her second goal of the half to get the visitors ahead for the last time at 4-3.
It was a matter of 22 seconds after Summers won the ensuing draw control that Meisenberg netted her second goal to start a 5-0 run for the Diplomats. Summers, Bevington and Pritchard each scored in the final five minutes of the first half for a 7-4 lead.
Meisenberg went in for the solo shot to start the second half, resulting in an 8-5 advantage before Dickinson attempted a comeback with four straight goals. The Red Devils scored two goals in 39 seconds and added two more to knot the game at 8-all. Lexie Kob scored twice and assisted on another in the spurt.
Bevington put F&M up 9-8 on an assist from Meisenberg, but Dickinson was not ready to back down and evened the score again with an unassisted tally by Sunnie Ko at 16:49.
The Diplomats were awarded two free-position shots with Lussier and Bevington converting one apiece for an 11-9 lead. The Red Devils responded right back with their final goal 15 seconds later thanks to Jennings from Ko to make it 11-10, however, F&M was able to hold off Dickinson in the final 11:08 and get an insurance goal from Lussier for its sixth straight conference win.
Lidia Sanza made seven saves in the cage for the Diplomats. With her three goals, Meisenberg only needs two more to reach 100 for her career.
The Diplomats return to action on Saturday against Bryn Mawr. Game time is 1 p.m.
