LANCASTER, Pa. - Haverford's three-goal run in the first ten
minutes of the second half proved to be the difference as the Fords
defeated Franklin & Marshall 3-1 in Centennial Conference (CC)
field hockey action on Saturday afternoon. The loss ends the
Diplomats (6-7, 2-5 CC) chance at a postseason, while the win keeps
Haverford's (5-8, 3-3 CC) hopes alive.
The Diplomats struck first midway through the first half. When
Allison McLaren deflected Eileen O'Reilly's shot past the keeper,
putting F&M up 1-0. F&M was unable to connect the
remainder of the game.
65 seconds into the second half, Haverford started their
three-goal run. Haverford's Margaret Selsor deflected teammate Alex
Waleko's shot past F&M goalie Sarah Dileo to erase a 1-0
halftime deficit.
Five minutes later the Fords' Josie Ferri finished off a give
and go from Mary Hobbs to put Haverford ahead, and then Juliana
Morgan-Trostle added one more goal in the Ford's 10-minute
offensive explosion.
Franklin & Marshall outshot the Fords, 7-6, in the opening
half but Haverford turned the tables in the second stanza with a
14-3 advantage in shots.
Dileo took the loss, recording eight saves. She drops to 1-2.
Maggie Cronin picked up the win for Haverford making five saves,
improving to 5-8.
Franklin & Marshall returns to field on October
20th when the Diplomats travel Dickinson.
