LANCASTER, Pa. -- Franklin & Marshall's volleyball team
started a new winning streak on the second day of the F&M
Scramble. The Diplomats posted back-to-back 3-0 sweeps over
Stevenson University and Cabrini College.
The Diplomats (17-3) opened with a 6-0 run never looked back in
F&M's 25-18, 30-28, 25-21 win over Stevenson (7-11).One of
Kerry Rom's 11 kills ended the first game. She tied Nicole Morano
for the team-high in the Stevenson match.
The only stretch that got dicey for the Diplomats was in the
second game. F&M trailed 20-17 but rallied to knot it up 23-23.
A Kristen Lubeski block made it 24-23 in favor of the guests, but a
Rom kill made 24-up. Lubeski again gave her team a lead 25-24, but
a soft-touch Sydney Seydel kill followed by a Mariah Eble kill on
extended rally gave F&M the advantage, 26-25.
All-Tournament players, Morano from F&M and Alex Mercer,
from Stevenson went back and forth to settle things. Mercer slammed
down a kill to knot it once again, but Morano blocked the next
Mercer attack. After exchanging service errors, Morano spiked the
ball off of Mercer at close range to close out the second,
30-28.
Pam Horner, F&M's other representative on the all-tourney
team, recorded 27 assists and 12 digs in the win. Her effort was
matched by Stevenson's Amy Rudolph. The Mustangs' Avery Gabbard
posted the match high in digs with 14.
Candice Tussing and Rom provided the offensive punch for the
Diplomats in the 25-21, 25-17, 25-17 sweep of Cabrini. Tussing
punched up 14 kills to go with three digs, three assists, an ace
and a block assist. Rom dropped a dozen kills on the Cavaliers
(14-5) and added a pair of solo blocks and digs. Morano added seven
kills to the cause, taking advantage of 41 Horner assists.
The Diplomats return to action in Centennial Conference (CC)
play on Wednesday when F&M hosts Haverford (17-2, 4-0 CC).
