WESTMINSTER, Md. - John Harrison completed 26 passes for 404
yards and five touchdowns to lead Franklin & Marshall to a
41-20 win at McDaniel on Saturday. The sophomore signal caller
reset the school season records for completions, passing yards and
touchdowns in the Centennial Conference (CC) win. He also broke the
single-game record for passing yards with the first 400-yard day in
F&M history. Franklin & Marshall moved to 7-1 (5-1 CC),
while McDaniel fell to 4-4 (2-4 CC).
Harrison's first touchdown of the day, a one-yard pass to a wide
open Mike Deutch in the back of the end zone reset the single
season record for touchdown passes. His 22nd touchdown
pass of the season topped Geno Pagnozzi's mark of 21 set back in
the 1989 season. Harrison's assault on the record book was just
getting started.
Tied with Kyle Turner at 2,203 yards, Harrison hit Eager in
stride, wide open on the McDaniel 30-yardline late in the second
quarter. He jogged in for a 50-yard score, helping Harrison
reestablish the single season yardage record in emphatic fashion.
Harrison's 26th and final completion of the game gave
him the school's single season record at 197.
Eager and Deutch each caught a pair of touchdowns in the win.
Eager's first touchdown looked much like Deutch's. The senior
camped out in the back of the end zone and collected a high pass,
keeping his heels in play on a one-yard score. Deutch's second
score of the day was the only touchdown where a McDaniel player
made physical contact with the Diplomats' scorer. Facing third and
goal from the seven-yardline, Deutch caught the ball on the five
and pushed two McDaniel defenders into the endzone for a fourth
quarter touchdown.
Eager recorded 13 receptions on the afternoon for 175 yards.
Deutch and John Kaschak each caught four passes for 47 and 38
yards, respectively. Kaschak scored an 18-yard touchdown on
another case of McDaniel failing to account for an F&M player.
He was standing wide open right down the middle of the field for an
easy score. Jarrell Diggs caught three passes for 127 yards,
including a 77-yard catch and run for F&M's longest play from
scrimmage to set up the game's first touchdown.
Cornerback, Barry Lovett, scored for the second straight week.
Last week it was a fumble recovery that led to a 69-yard touchdown.
This week, he intercepted a Thomas Massuci pass that was deflected
by Jeff Kellar and rolled 62 yards down his sideline for a score.
His touchdown is the second in as many years against McDaniel on an
interception return. Kellar, who had the touchdown return last
year, also recorded a pick this afternoon.
McDaniel's Massucci completed 16 of 33 passes for 211 yards and
a touchdown. With his team down 13-0, he dumped a screen to T.J.
Develin who took it from the right hash to the left sideline for a
16-yard score, making it 13-7 late in the second quarter. F&M
responded immediately with the 50-yard bomb to Eager. Lovett's
score on the other side of the half signaled that the rout was on.
The Diplomats return to Maryland next Saturday for a Centennial
contest at Johns Hopkins. F&M then returns home to face
Gettysburg.
