YORK, Pa. - York's back-to-back goals late in the second half
propelled the Spartans to a 3-1 victory over Franklin &
Marshall in a non-conference women's soccer game Tuesday evening.
The Diplomats fall to 3-9, while York improves to 8-2-1.
Kat Sipes scored first for York when she headed in a corner kick
from Carly Bock at 1:54. Neither team scored for 75 minutes as both
defenses settled in. The Spartans went up 3-0 in a three minute
span on back-to-back goals. The first happened at 76:35 as Kat
Torode one-timed a corner kick from Steph Mergler. Katie
Meehan headed a pass home from Kaitlyn Harney for the second goal
of the half at 79:31.
The Diplomats lit the scoreboard when Christine Madonia scored
her third goal of the year. Madonia headed in a corner kick from
Jen Korngut in the 88th minute, making the score
3-1.
The Spartans outshot F&M 23-5 and held an 11-2 advantage in
corner kicks.
F&M's Jessica House, filling in for an injured Katie
Golding, takes the loss. House came into the game in the second
half and stopped four shots. The Spartan's Desiree Halaka earns the
win. Halaka picked up two saves in 45 minutes of work.
Franklin & Marshall returns to the pitch on October
10th when the Diplomats travel to McDaniel.
