LANCASTER, Pa. - #20 Haverford edged Franklin & Marshall in two tight games to sneak away from the Mayser Center with a 3-1 win in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball Wednesday night. The Fords (19-2, 5-0 CC) held onto first place in the league, while handing the Diplomats (18-4, 5-1 CC) their first setback in conference play.

F&M fell behind 7-2 early in the first game, but rallied back for the win in the opener. Kerry Rom posted five of her 12 kills on the night in the first game to give the Diplomats' a 25-23 win and 1-0 edge.

The second game started and ended with Rebecca Salvo firing volley after volley onto F&M's side of the floor. Her cross court attacks down the net from the far left proved troublesome throughout the night. Salvo finished the match with the 16 kills, including three-straight that brought her team back from a 23-20 deficit in the second game.

F&M committed 16 errors over the final two games, including nine attack errors in the fourth and final game, won 26-24 by Haverford.

In addition to her 16 kills, Salvo posted a match-high 21 digs. Kate Comey recorded 41 assists for the Fords while Caitlyn Tranquillo served up three aces. Sydney Sydel played a superb match for F&M, matching Salvo's 16-kills. She also posted four digs, two assists and two solo blocks. Rom had four digs to go with her dozen kills while Jess Poucel and Nicole Morano added nine kills apiece to the F&M cause. Pam Horner posted 41 assists on the night, while Katy May offered 18 digs.

The Diplomats played the match without the services of Candice Tussing.

F&M returns to action this weekend for matches against Widener and DeSales at DeSales. The Diplomats return home and to league play a week from tonight against Johns Hopkins.
