LANCASTER, Pa. - James McNally's 14 of his season-high 30 points
over the last eight minutes halted a late run by St. Mary's as the
#6 Diplomats defeated the #20 Seahawks 72-61 in men's basketball
action.
A layup by McNally with 8:05 remaining in the game halted a 19-4
run by St. Mary's that had gotten the Seahawks (3-1) within two
points. The run spanned over eight minutes while two key
starters for the Diplomats (4-1) were on the bench in foul
trouble.
McNally finished the night with his fourth double-double in as
many games. McNally shot 13-for-22 from the floor and pulled down a
season-high 13 rebounds shooting 4-for-7 from the line.
The Diplomats started off strong and never trailed. With
the score tied at two apiece early in the game, Anthony Brooks went
on a 10-point scoring spree, draining two treys, a jumper and two
free throws. He also dished out two assists as the Diplomats went
on 15-3 run to take a 19-5 lead.
Brooks finished the night shooting 85.7% from the field. He was
2-for-2 from behind the arc and 3-for-5 from the line. He dished
out eight assists and collected six rebounds.
F&M built their lead by as much as 18 on a layup by Georgio
Milligan with 4:52 remaining in the first half and went into
halftime leading 40-23.
The first 3:20 of the second half started with each team trading
baskets and the Diplomats leading 47-28 with 16:30 on the clock,
until the Seahawks went on their run. The 19-4 run was
ignited by the Seahawk's Camontae Griffin's 13 points and lasted a
better part of eight minutes.
Griffin led the way for the Seahawks scoring 31 points. He shot
12-for- 24 from the field, 2-for-3 from the arc and 5-for-5 from
the line.
Georgio Milligan contributed ten points going 3-for-9. Mike
Baker pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds.
The Diplomats return to the court Wednesday December
2nd when the Diplomats host Ursinus for their Centennial
Conference opener.
