LANCASTER, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall's men's basketball team
scratched a six-game itch defeating Gettysburg 61-52 Wednesday
evening in Centennial Conference (CC) action. The Bullets had
defeated the Diplomats in the previous six meeting with the last
F&M win coming on November 28, 2006.
Gettysburg accounted for three of F&M's seven losses last
season, including a 73-65 win the conference finals.
F&M started out with a 4-0 lead before they found themselves
trailing 16-9 with 15:13 left in the first half. An Anthony Brooks
led 13-5 run put the Diplomats back on top, 22-21, with 8:43
remaining. Brooks scored four points in the run, including
back-to-back steals and dunks.
The Diplomats never trailed after the early run and took a 37-29
lead into the half. Brooks scored 10 points in the period and
Paul Crone scored nine points for the Bullets.
Gettysburg opened the second stanza on an 11-6 run, cutting
F&M's lead to one with 13:30 left in the game. The Diplomats
answered with a 10-0 run of their own taking a 53-42 lead with 8:05
showing on the clock.
Kevin Kennedy's jumper with 48 seconds remaining put the Bullets
within five points before a dunk by Brooks, and two free throws by
Mike Baker, sealed the victory for F&M.
Four players scored in double-digits for the Diplomats with
Brooks leading the way with a team-high 16 points. Brooks also had
six rebounds, six steals and five assists. Baker and Georgio
Milligan chipped in 14 points apiece. James McNally scored 11
points and pulled down six rebounds. McNally is eight points away
from 1,000 in his career and five rebounds shy of 500.
Andrew Powers scored a game-high 20 points for the Bullets and
Crone added 13.
Franklin & Marshall returns to court on January 2nd when the
Diplomats host the Sponaugle New Year's Tournament.
