COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Julie Bown scored a team-high 20 points
behind four triples, including the game-winning three pointer with
nine seconds remaining to lead Ursinus over Franklin & Marshall
57-54 in Centennial Conference (CC) wonen's basketball action on
Tuesday.
It was three pointers that helped the Bears (5-16, 4-11 CC) stop
any potential run by the Diplomats (12-10, 9-6 CC) to pull ahead to
snap a seven-game losing streak and complete the season sweep of
F&M.
Sarah Meisenberg recorded a game-high 22 points, going 8-for-10
from the charity stripe. She also tied a team-high with eight
rebounds, while adding four assists.
After the Diplomats took a two-point lead on two Meisenberg's
free throws with 6:15 left to play, but Bown hit her third three
pointer to give Ursinus the lead back at 45-44. The Bears answered
with two points to every F&M layup over a two-minute span.
The Diplomats did what they had to claw back with Meisenberg and
Cara Landolfi each converting a three-point play to knot the game
at 54-all.
The Bears called two timeouts with 32 seconds left and Bown
subbed in for the last play, knocking down the game winner from
where she was comfortable all night for a three-point victory.
Meisenberg could not get her desperation three pointer to fall
with time expiring.
F&M took a 7-6 lead in the first five minutes of the game
and for the next three minutes defense was the name of the game.
Neither team would score a point until Alison Menna hit a free
throw at the 11:59 mark.
Megan Pauley, who finished with 11 points and seven rebounds,
drained a layup for a 12-11 visitor lead but Jaclyn Hilf stopped
the chance of a run with a three-pointer to make it 14-12.
The Diplomats tied the game on three occasions down the stretch
and Meisenberg made a pair from the charity stripe for a quick
one-point lead before Bown put up another three-pointer for a 25-23
at the half.
To start the game, Meisenberg and Pauley combined for 21 of the
first 28 points for F&M.
The Diplomats take on Bryn Mawr on Saturday in its final home
game of the regular season. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
