F&M's Last Time Out: Shannon Summers
dished out a career-high seven assists and added goal for a
game-best eight points to lead No. 3 Franklin & Marshall over
Bryn Mawr 20-1 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse
action on Saturday.
Summers registered six assists in the first half to reach the
100-career assists plateau. Meredith Lussier collected her third
hat trick of the season, scoring three goals in the first 10
minutes of the game to lead the Diplomats (5-0) over the Owls
(2-4). F&M remains undefeated.
Union's Last Time Out: Kristin Joyce and
Chloe Schmitz scored three goals each and Union held off a late
Buffalo State rally for a 10-9 women's lacrosse season opening win
at Frank Bailey Field Friday afternoon. The contest was also the
opener for the Bengals. Chelsea Charette and Melissa Hine each had
a pair of assists with a goal for the Dutchwomen, while Cat
Ruggiero made nine saves in the Union net.
Joyce had nine shots to lead Union, with eight on net, while
Schmitz, a freshman in her first career game for Union, had six
shots and five ground balls. Abby Stohler and Jill LaForest scored
the other Dutchwomen tallies, while Stohler and Joyce added
assists.
The Dangerous Dutchwomen: Union only suffered four
defeats a season ago, two at the hands of Hamilton, who downed
F&M in the National Championship game. The second loss to
Hamilton came in their conference championship final.
First Goal Factor: First-year, Lauren Ehrhardt,
has factored in F&M's first goal in every game this
season. She has scored F&M's first goal in every game
except the neutral site game against Division II Merrimack. In that
game, Blake Hargest got F&M on the board first, assisted by, of
course, Lauren Ehrhardt.
Milestones Don't Take Spring Break: Ashley
Bevington registered her 100th career point on a goal against Bryn
Mawr on Saturday… Sarah Meisenberg registered her 200th
career point against Merrimack… Jen Pritchard registered her
250th point against Merrimack…
No Disrespect Coach: Shannon Summers passed her
coach, Lauren Paul, on the career assists list. Summers is sitting
on 104 assists, and needs three to tie Alexis O'Meara for the
F&M career record of 107. Summers is only the third Fummer to
hit the 100-assist mark, joining O'Meara and Paul.
Additional Records in Jeopardy: Jen Pritchard
has 214 career goals. She needs seven more to tie Lauren Petrella
for the F&M record. She is also six points away from tying
Maria Gaydos for fourth in career points at 262.
On the Mend: Starting middies and key cogs in
the transition, Sarah Meisenberg and Devi Hensch, are both nicked
up and will see limited or no action today. First-year, Cat Serpe,
will likely start for one of the two.
Diplomats on the Draw: After struggling on the
draw controls through the first three games, F&M has recovered
and holds a 70-45 edge in DC's. Lauren Paul has noted Shannon
Summers skill on the circle for helping the Diplomats secure
possession on the restart, along with Pritchard and Meisenberg.
With Meisenberg nicked up, Allison Solomon will be called upon to
help F&M off of the draw.
LP's Thoughts…
The last word on Bryn Mawr: “I was
pleased with how we played without regard to the level of
competition. Our focus was there throughout, and that gave us more
opportunities to play everyone. The whole (non-injured) team was on
the field and we had 11 first-years on the turf for the final ten
minutes.”
On Blake Hargest: “She is starting to
find her groove in the offense. She is so versatile that I need to
work to find all the best ways to put her many skills to
use.”
On Jen Pritchard: “JP is starting to hit
her stride and you can see the confidence in her game coming back.
She forced shots in the early games, but is no longer pressing. I
expect big things from her over the next few weeks.”
