LANCASTER, Pa. - Ashley Bevington, Blake Hargest and Jen
Pritchard each scored four goals to lead No. 3 Franklin &
Marshall past Cabrini 17-6 in the women's lacrosse season and
home opener on Wednesday.
The win was not only the first of the season but the first for
the Diplomats' (1-0) new mentor and alumnus Lauren Paul.
Hargest added three assists to bring her point total on the day
to a game high of seven. Shannon Summers recorded four
assists, leaving her two away from taking over fifth place in
career assists at F&M. She needs 11 more to become the third
player in program history to reach 100 assists.
Freshman Lauren Ehrhardt did not waste any time making herself
at home, scoring her first collegiate goal in the first 48 seconds
of the game and having a hand in the next two put up by the
Diplomats. She finished a pass from Bevington before assisting
Hargest for a 2-0 lead.
The Cavaliers (0-1) answered with three straight goals in a
three-minute span, including two from Amanda Alexandrowicz and one
free-position goal by Dolores Weathers to take their only lead of
the day at 3-2.
Hargest easily made it 4-3 with back-to-back goals for the hat
trick in just under 10 minutes of play. Pritchard then sandwiched
two goals between Alexandrowicz's third goal for a 6-4 edge.
Bevington followed in Pritchard's footsteps and scored the next
four goals for F&M in the final 10:58 of the first half to take
a 10-6 lead.
The Diplomats defense did not surrender any goals and only
allowed seven shots to be taken in the second half, while adding
seven more goals to the first 10. Meredith Lussier netted a hat
trick in the second half and Pritchard added two more goals to pass
her new coach on the career points list. Pritchard entered the game
with 239 and needed four points reach 242 to take over sixth on the
programs all-time list.
Lidia Sanza played all 60 minutes and made seven saves.
Cabrini's Kate Schmid tallied 22 saves on 55 F&M shots fired.
Pritchard and Bevington each added five draw controls.
The Diplomats return to action on Saturday at No. 7 Washington
& Lee. Game time is 1 p.m.
