LANCASTER, Pa - Blake Hargest fueled fifth-ranked Franklin &
Marshall's early run that led to a 14-5 defeat of visiting
Swarthmore in Centennial Conference (CC) action. The Diplomats
(9-1, 4-0 CC) started off red hot scoring three goals in the first
four minutes, and cruised to a 9-0 halftime score. Swarthmore (6-3,
0-3 CC) did not score in the game's first 52 minutes.
It took the Diplomats a mere 18 seconds to find twine as Jen
Pritchard quick-sticked a Hargest feed from behind the net. The
dish gave Hargest her 100th career assist. She added
three more assist to finish the night with four. Hargest and the
majority of F&M's starters were off of the field after 20
minutes play.
Laura Ruppersberger scored two goals, dished out two assists
playing for nearly 40 minutes. Four players scored two goals apiece
for the Diplomats.
Lidia Sanza was solid in front of cage stopping five of the
seven shots she saw. She did not allow any goals in her 30 minutes
of action. Chelsea Meerbach worked the second half, stopping three
Swarthmore advances while allowing all five inside of the game's
final eight minutes.
Swarthmore scored four unanswered goals late in the second half.
The Garnet's first goal of the game came with 7:50 left in
regulation on a coast-to-coast run and shot by Amy Vachal. She
finished the night with two goals as did her teammate Anna de Regt.
The Diplomats out shot Swarthmore 24 to 18 and won 16 of the
night's 21 draws. F&M passed up numerous scoring opportunities
in the second half. All of the Diplomats' reserve field players saw
significant minutes.
Franklin & Marshall returns to action Saturday when the
Diplomats travel to Dickinson. The game versus the Red Devils is
scheduled to start at 1p.m.
