LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's softball
team split Saturday's double header with Swarthmore in
Centennial Conference (CC) action. The Diplomats (16-16, 3-8 CC)
dropped the first game 5-2 and rallied back to defeat the Garnet
(12-27, 2-8 CC) 6-2 in the night cap.
The Diplomats got on the board first, scoring two runs in the
second inning. Jessica Feldman's RBI double down the left
field line scored Lauren Incorvaia for the first run. Feldman stole
third and was brought home by Barbara Sasso when she singled
through the left side.
Swarthmore answered back in fifth, producing all five of their
runs in the frame. Diplomats' ace Meredith Morgan was called
for five illegal pitches with two outs leading to all the Garnet
runs.
Barbara Sasso led the way at the plate for the Diplomats, going
2-for-3 with one RBI.
Feldman's bat was a major factor in F&M's
victory in game two. Feldman was perfect at the plate, going
3-for-3, knocking in two RBIs and scoring a run.
Swarthmore came out strong in game two, scoring in the second
and third innings, but picked up just one hit the remainder of the
game.
F&M used a six run fifth inning to seal the win. With two
outs and runners on second and third, Incorvaia hit a single to
left center to tie the game at two runs apiece. Meredith Morgan
scored on an error by the second basemen and Incorvaia crossed home
plate on a passed ball. Feldman came up in the next at and hit a
bomb over the left center field fence putting the Diplomats up 6-2.
Sara Damato picked up the win, improving to 4-8 on the season.
Damato struck out four while issuing five walks in six innings.
Incorvaia and Samantha Basuk both picked up two hits each. Basuk
was 2-for-2 and Incorvaia was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, scoring one
run.
Franklin & Marshall returns to diamond on April 21st with a
doubleheader versus Stevenson. Game time is set for 4 pm.
