LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall softball team
went out with a fight, dropping both games to Dickinson in a
Centennial Conference (CC) doubleheader on Saturday. The Red Devils
(17-14, 8-8 CC) won the first game 9-3 and picked their second
victory with a 13-8 defeat of the Diplomats (16-20, 4-12 CC) in
game two. The game was the last event for the F&M seniors. They
were honored in between games.
F&M fell into an early 6-0 hole in game one and were never able
to climb out. The Diplomats put two runs on the board in the
fourth. Meredith Morgan knocked in the first when her ground
out to second plated Lauren Incorvaia. Two batters later Caitlin
Elfring doubled to left field scoring Jess Feldman, bringing the
score to 6-2 in favor of Dickinson.
The Diplomats added an additional run in the seventh on an
Incorvaia single, but were unable to produce more runs.
Liz Barry picked up the win for the Red Devils, improving to 9-5 on
the season. Barry pitched a complete seven innings, striking out
three and issuing five walks.
Meredith Morgan suffered the loss. Morgan (7-6) struck out four and
walked six in seven innings of work.
Things were looking good for the Diplomats in game two as they
built a 7-0 lead going into the fourth inning. This is when the
wheels came off, as Dickinson outscored F&M 13-1 in the final
four frames.
The Diplomats struck early, scoring four runs in the first and
three in the second innings. Morgan, Elfring and Barbara Sasso all
knocked in runs for F&M in frame one.
Feldman's two run blast to left center in the second put
F&M up 6-0. The shot was her second of the year. Morgan knocked
in another run, giving the Diplomats a 7-0 lead.
Dickinson answered back in the fourth, scoring five runs. They
added two in fifth and six more in the sixth frame.
Barry picked up her 10th win, coming into game after one and half
innings. She gave up just one run the rest of the game.
