COLLEGEVILLE, Pa – Ursinus picked up their 11th straight
win Sunday afternoon, sweeping Franklin & Marshall in a
Centennial Conference (CC) doubleheader. The Bears (17-5, 4-0 CC)
needed five innings to win the first game 10-0, and completed the
sweep with a 5-0 victory over the visiting Diplomats (12-14, 2-6
CC) in the second game.
The Bears used 11 hits to score 10 runs in the first game. Ursinus
took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on RBIs by Tracy Olsen and
Kristen Gallagher. They added four more runs in the fourth bringing
the score to 6-0. The last runs of the game came from a Sara
Williams' walk off grand slam in the bottom of the fifth
invoking the mercy rule.
Ursinus ace Lauren Davis (16-5) pitched a gem to pick up the
victory. She allowed two hits in five innings of work. Davis walked
two and struck out seven batters.
Meredith Morgan was saddled with the loss for the Diplomats.
Morgan (5-3) pitched four innings giving up ten hits and six
runs.
Davis picked up where she left off in the nightcap. She silenced
the Diplomats' bats again with another shutout. Davis allowed
five hits while striking out nine batters to pick up the 5-0
victory.
Ursinus scored in four of the six innings in which they batted.
The Bears picked up two runs in the fourth to make the score 4-0.
They added another in the fifth. Abby Sido went 2-for-3 and
produced an RBI to lead Ursinus' offense.
Sara Damato suffered the loss. Damato (2-7) gave up eight hits and
five runs in her six innings of work. No Diplomats recorded
multiple hits in either game.
Franklin & Marshall heads to Haverford Tuesday for a 3:30 p.m.
doubleheader.
