LANCASTER, Pa. – Lauren
Incorvaia's two out, walk-off home run in the bottom of the
seventh snapped Franklin & Marshall's eight-game losing
streak. Her ninth homer of the season, a shot over the left-center
fence, delivered the Diplomats (13-15, 3-7 CC) a 5-4 win over
Haverford in the first half of a Centennial Conference
doubleheader. The Fords (15-9, 8-2 CC) exacted their revenge in the
nightcap with a 6-1 win.
Incorvaia went 2-for-4 in the first game with
a pair of RBIs. In addition to scoring the game-winning run, the
Diplomats' senior backstop singled to leftfield in the first
inning to plate leadoff batter, Jessika Mancino. Mancino, who
reached on a walk, gave the Diplomats the 1-0 jump.
Haverford knotted it at 1-1 in the third when
Natalie Richman singled back through the box to score Dana Irshay,
who had reached on one of Haverford's three hits in the
inning. Meredith Morgan (6-3) worked out of the jam leaving the
bases full of Fords. Morgan allowed 10 hits in the complete game
win. Haverford stranded eight runners in the game.
F&M got the run back in the bottom half of
the inning when Mancino lead off the inning with a single. She
later stole third and came home on the errant attempt to gun her
down.
Kristina Fietkiewicz stretched the lead to 3-1
with a solo shot in the fourth. Mancino picked up a hit that scored
Kelly Marchisio to make it 4-1 in favor of the Diplomats. Mancino
finished the first game 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and the
RBI.
The Fords came storming back in the top of the
fifth, getting three runs on four hits and an error, setting the
stage for Incorvaia's heroics.
The second game threatened to get away from
F&M several times, but the Fords stranded a dozen batters.
After getting a quick pair in the second, Haverford left two on
board. The Diplomats immediately undid half of the damage when
Barbara Sasso led off the bott
om of the inning with a double to right-center. F&M's
pitcher, Sarah Damato drove her in with a single down the
rightfield line. That was it for the Diplomats' offense.
The Fords' left the bases loaded in the
third and stranded two more in the fourth, but not before getting a
pair. Richman hit a sacrifice fly into rightfield and Erin Delaney
singled up the middle to plate Irshay in the fourth. Haverford
added a run in the fifth and sixth before play was halted by
darkness.
Delaney was 3-for-3 in the nightcap, scoring
twice and driving in a run. Becky Garibotto got the win in
the circle for Haverford. She limited F&M to a hit per inning
to move to 5-2 on the year.
The Diplomats return to action on Friday for a
pair with Penn State-Hazelton.
