BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall took two on Saturday to
capture the title at the Seventh Annual Greyhound Premiere
Invitational at Moravian. The Diplomats (4-1) jumped into the
championship final pool on the strength of a pair of 3-0 sweeps
Friday night. A 3-1 win over the hosts and a 3-0 sweep of
Swarthmore secured the crown, F&M's first invitational win
since the 2007 Elizabethtown Invite.
First-year Kerry Rom recorded 23 kills 16 digs and three blocks
between the two matches. She had 13 kills, seven digs and a pair of
blocks in the 23-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-16 win over Moravian. She had
10 kills and nine digs in the 25-19, 25-17, 25-19 sweep of
Swarthmore.
Katy May recorded 12 digs and served up five aces in the opening
match. Pam Horner fed the offense with 33 assists. Nicole Morano
recorded 11 kills and six blocks in each match. Lis Power had ten
digs and an ace in the Swarthmore victory. Morano and Horner were
each named to the all-tournament team.
The Diplomats used 16 aces to serve their way past Centenary
25-14, 25-13, 25-14 on Friday evening. First-year Jian Lipowcan
accounted for four of them to go with her five digs. Classmate,
Sydney Seydel threw in seven kills for the Diplomats' cause, while
Morano came up with five kills and four blocks.
The class of 2013 served up the 25-11, 25-13, 25-12 win over the
Crusdaers. Lipowcan notched five aces and Elise Gilchrist added
four more in the sweep. The Diplomats aced Alvernia 20 times.
Freshmen led the assault against Alvernia throughout the match.
Seydel and Rom each recorded seven kills. Caitlin Krutsick fueled
the offense with 14 assists.
The Diplomats return to Lancaster for the home and Centennial
Conference opener on Wednesday. F&M will face Washington (Md.).
