LANCASTER, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall used a 15-0 run in the
final six minutes to come within three points, but Meghan Tait hit
two free throws to secure a 61-56 victory for Washington. The win
was the first for the Shorewomen (6-7, 4-4 CC) in the last 12
meetings in Lancaster.
Trailing 59-41 with 6:13 remaining in the game, F&M (7-6,
3-5 CC) put together a late run that ended on a jump shot by Alexa
Barbush with 1:18 remaining. Both teams came up empty on their
ensuing possessions and Tait hit her free throw attempts with 18.9
seconds left to preserve the win.
Beth Holt scored five, of her team-high 16, points in the final
six-minute run. Holt finished the night shooting 4-for-9 from the
floor, 4-for-8 from behind the arc and 4-for-4 from the line. She
added five boards, four assists and four steals.
The Shorewomen led by as many as 13 points in the first half and
held a 29-16 lead with 1:31 remaining. F&M hit six straight
free throws to come within seven points. Sally O'Donnell hit
a trey with 17 seconds to go and Washington took a 32-22 advantage
into the locker room.
Alexa Barbush and Megan Pauley also scored in double-figures
with ten points each. Barbush shot 6-for-6 from the line and Pauley
went 4-for-12 from the field. Elizabeth Snyder added seven points
from the bench.
Jane O'Donnell scored a game-high 17 points, and Sally O'Donnell
added 12, for Washington. Erin Kile contributed 11 points and
pulled down 16 rebounds. Tait tallied eight points, eight assists,
and 11 boards.
Washington held a 45-31 advantage on the glass, with 16 coming
on the offensive end resulting in 14 second-chance points.
Franklin & Marshall returns to action on Thursday when the
Diplomats host Bryn Mawr in a spilt double-header. The women will
tip-off at 6 p.m. followed by the men (vs. Washington) at 8 p.m.
