BALTIMORE – Johns Hopkins went on a 6-0 run in the final two
minutes to secure a 58-54 victory over Franklin & Marshall in a
Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball game. The loss
is the fourth straight for the Diplomats as they fell to 8-10 (4-9
CC). The Blue Jays improved to 10-7 (8-5 CC).
With the score tied at 52 and 2:17 showing on the clock, Stephanie
Fong scored four-straight points in the Blue Jays' decisive
run. Alexa Barbush's layup with seven seconds left put
F&M within four points, but the Diplomats turned the ball over
after collecting a missed free throw three seconds later to end the
contest.
F&M took a 23-21 lead into halftime and led by as many as six
points in the second half, before Hopkins answered. Trailing by six
points, 29-23, the Blue Jays put together an 18-5 run to go up
seven with 9:19 remaining in the game.
Hopkins pushed their lead to eight points, 48-40, before the
Diplomats chipped away. Beth Holt scored seven of her game-high 14
points in the final six minutes to set up a Barbush layout at 2:17
to tie the game. Holt drained all three of her trifectas and went
3-for-5 from the line.
Elizabeth Snyder and Barbush added ten points apiece for the
Diplomats. Barbush shot 50% from the floor and Snyder went 6-for-6
from the stripe.
Lyndsay Burton turned in a double-double for the Jays, scoring 16
points and pulling down 11 boards. The Blue Jays received 30 points
from their bench led by Leslie Markun's nine.
Franklin & Marshall returns to action on Saturday when the
Diplomats host Swarthmore for a double-header. The men will tip-off
first at 4:00 p.m. followed by the women at 6:00 p.m.
