SWARTMORE, Pa. - Four players scored in double-figures for # 13
Franklin & Marshall as the Diplomats defeated Swarthmore 75-51
in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action Saturday
afternoon. The win marks the fifth-straight for F&M as it
improved to 10-2 (4-1 CC). Swarthmore fell to 2-10 (1-4 CC) on the
season.
The Diplomats trailed 14-11 at the 13:00 mark, before they went
on 26-10 run to take a 37-24 lead into halftime. Steve Tolliver
scored 15, of his career-high 17, points in the stanza. Tolliver
finished the day shooting 70% from field and 3-for-4 from behind
the arc.
F&M started the second half in the same fashion they ended
the first, outscoring the Garnet 33-7 in the first 15 minutes of
the period. Mike Baker's layup at 5:26 gave the Diplomats their
largest lead at 29 points.
Anthony Brooks scored a team-high 18 points, shooting 6-for-11
from the floor, 2-for-3 from downtown and a perfect 4-for-4 from
the line. James McNally matched Tolliver with 17 points. McNally
finished 8-for-15 from the field. Baker added 10 points and pulled
down a team-high eight boards.
The Garnet were led by freshmen Will Gates' game-high 27 points.
Gates shot 47% from the field and 3-for-7 from three-point land. He
added a team-high seven boards. No other Garnet scored in
double-figures.
F&M outscored the Garnet 18-4 in fast break points while
shooting an efficient 50 percent from the field. The Diplomats held
a 39-26 advantage on the glass and got 26 points from their bench.
Franklin & Marshall returns to the court on Tuesday when the
Diplomats travel to Muhlenberg for an 8:00 p.m. tip-off.
