Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – Dickinson scored a pair of second half
goals 4:23 apart to knock off Franklin & Marshall 2-0 in
Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer on Wednesday.
The Red Devils (11-2-1, 6-1 CC) got the game winner in the
68th minute when Hannah Richardson broke up the
scoreless tie. Samantha Friday played a ball out in front from deep
in the right corner. Richardson settled the ball on her foot and
went over Diplomats (7-6, 3-5 CC) keeper, Hannah Barry, for
the go-ahead goal.
With the Diplomats reeling from the initial blow, Dickinson
pressed the issue. An Olivia Licata pass to Ashley Kunkle in the
box left Barry with little chance of making a save. Kunkle
redirected the ball into the same real estate enjoyed by
Richardson.
Where she wasn't hung out to dry, Barry turned in a strong
effort, keeping F&M in the game until late. Dickinson pieced
together a solid string of passes in the 27th minute,
leaving Friday on the doorstep at the right post. The Diplomats
keeper confidently gobbled up the first point blank shot she faced
on the night. That save, the first of Barry's three on the evening,
got the Diplomats offense in gear.
F&M countered, building a brilliant scoring opportunity that
left Nancy
Epstein with a shot down low on the left hand side of the box.
Her laser sailed just right of the far post. The Diplomats kept
pressing and developed another opportunity in the 29th
minute. Stephanie
Bartner's shot to finish sailed a foot over the
crossbar. Annie Weichert came up with a pair of saves
when F&M did place the ball within the frame of the
woodwork.
Dickinson outshot F&M 15-7 and enjoyed an 8-1 advantage in
corner kicks. The Diplomats return to action on Saturday evening at
Muhlenberg.
