Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall field hockey ended the 2010 campaign on a four-game winning streak, defeating Swarthmore 3-1 in Centennial Conference (CC) play. The Diplomats end the season with a 10-7 (5-5 CC) record.
Chelsey Talhelm lit the scoreboard first in the 16th minute for the Diplomats. Talhelm made a great move in the box, getting the goalie out of position, and found the back of the net. Kristen Zublin, 14 minutes later, made it a 2-0 game when she shot from just inside the arc for the goal.
Swarthmore (6-12, 3-7 CC) scored its first and only goal in the 42nd minute. Sophia Ferguson took a penalty corner for the Garnet, knocking the ball to Allison Ranshous who passed it back to Ferguson for the goal.
The Diplomats answered five seconds later when Kimmy Fisher came away with the ball, after a scramble ensued in front of the net, for the insurance goal and a 3-1 F&M lead.
F&M outshot Swarthmore 17-11 while the Garnet picked up 16 corners to the Diplomats' 11.
Sarah Dileo picked up the win. Dileo stopped seven shots and improved to 8-4. Kate Ashmore took the loss with nine saves.
