CHESTERTOWN, Md. - #15 Franklin & Marshall avenged its only
home loss this season, defeating Washington (Md.) 74-58 in a
Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball game Saturday
afternoon.
F&M improved to 20-3, 14-2 CC, and earned the right to host
the CC Tournament with the top-seed after their victory on
Thursday. The Shoremen fell to 11-9, 9-7 CC and remain as a bubble
team in the conference. The win marks the eighth 20-win season for
the Diplomats in the last 12 years.
The Diplomats never trailed, but Washington kept pace in the
first half. The Shoremen stayed within six point through most of
the half before F&M ended the period on a 13-6 run to take
34-27 edge into the locker room.
F&M built its lead to 12 points, 48-36, with less than 13
minutes remaining in the game. The Shoremen responded scoring six
unanswered points to make the score 48-42 with 11:02 showing on the
clock.
The Diplomats answered with a 16-5 run led by Georgio Milligan.
Milligan hit three treys in the run, scoring nine of his 14 points
in the four-minute run. The Diplomats led by as much as 17 points
and their lead did not fall below 12 points the remainder of the
game.
Anthony Brooks led the way for F&M with 17 points. Brooks
shot 6-for-8 from the floor and went 5-for-6 from the line. He
added eights boards and five assists. James McNally dropped in 12
points and Steve Tolliver added 11 points in the win.
The Diplomats held a commanding 44-29 advantage on the glass and
their defense limited Washington to 35% shooting.
F&M returns to the court on Wednesday when they Diplomats
host Johns Hopkins for a CC double-header. The women tip-off at 6
p.m. followed by the men at 8 p.m.
