LANCASTER, Pa. - Four Blue Jays scored in
double figures as Johns Hopkins defeated Franklin & Marshall
60-50 in Centennial Conference women's basketball action Wednesday
evening. The Diplomats fell to 10-14, 6-13 CC, and Hopkins improved
to 14-9, 12-7 CC.
F&M led 37-36 with 16:04 left to play in the second period
but Hopkins answered with a 21-3 run that spanned 8:34 to seal the
victory.
Alexa Barbush led all scorers in the second period with 11
points and shot 4-for-6 from the free throw line, but F&M could
not keep up with Hopkins. The Blue Jays' defense caused seven
Diplomat turnovers and a 23.1 shooting percentage in the second
half. Hopkins, on the other hand, turned in eight second-chance
points and six points off F&M errors.
The Blue Jays held the lead for most of the first half, going up
by 12 points midway through the period. F&M chipped away at the
score, including going 6-for-8 from the charity stripe, and took
its first lead of the night heading into the locker room with a
28-27 edge.
Alex Vassila turned in a double-double with 11 points and a
game-high 14 rebounds to lead the Hopkins squad. Anastasia Wynn
tallied 14 points for the Blue Jays, eight of which came in the
second half. Lyndsay Burton and Britni Lonesome added ten
points each and Hopkins also received 22 points from the bench.
Barbush recorded a game and career-high 18 points and also
grabbed three rebounds for the Diplomats, while Megan Pauley and
Allison Bauer added 8 points apiece.
The Diplomats return to the court on Saturday, hosting a
double-header with Dickinson for the final game of the season. The
women will tip-off at 2 p.m., followed by the men at 4 p.m.
