BRYN MAWR, Pa. – A week after being bumped from the No. 1
perch by the birds from Salisbury, No. 3 Franklin & Marshall
bounced back by blasting Bryn Mawr 21-0. The Diplomats needed only
one save out of Courtney Victor to ensure the shutout, the
Diplomats' first since 2004 and sixth in program history.
The shutout marked F&M's (5-1, 1-0 CC) first blanking of an
opponent since a 15-0 win over Swarthmore in April of 2004. Lidia
Sanza got the start and worked the first 14:02 without seeing a
shot before yielding the F&M cage to Victor, but Sanza's day
was not done. The Diplomats' senior worked on the offensive end
late in the second half. After stopping 456 shots in her career,
Sanza finally fired one of her own, finding net on a Sarah Veneski
feed with 2:21 left in the game. Sanza will likely finish her
career with a 1.000 shooting percentage.
Veneski also set up the game-winner, feeding Erin Dunne 48
seconds into play. It stood up as the game winner. Meredith Lussier
then scored back-to-back goals, the second assisted by Dunne, to
give F&M a 3-0 lead at 4:09. Lussier finished the game with
three goals and two assists. Lauren Selawski also recorded a hat
trick and an assist. Blake Hargest scored once and assisted on
three more goals, while Laura Ruppersberger assisted on three
F&M tallies.
Sanza was not the only Diplomat to net her first career marker.
Selawski's three were the first of her career. Elizabeth Hudson and
Mary McNutt each scored their first career goals as well.
The Diplomats return to action on Wednesday at McDaniel.
